Greetings everyone and Happy Holidays! MSQ recently moved into its Open Beta, meaning you can sign up for a profile and explore all the site has to offer! From Monday to Friday we bring you some of the best projects the cryptosphere has to offer. From NFTs and DeFi to Blockchain games and the Metaverse, you’ll find it all right here on MSQ! In today’s special holiday Discovery of the Day, we take a look at 5 awesome Blockchain games coming in 2022!
A Taste of What’s to Come!
It’s nearly time for the bells to ring and for us to welcome in a brand new year. 2021 has been nothing short of a crazy ride for the Blockchain industry which saw a boom in NFTs, Bitcoin becoming legal tender in El Salvador (and reaching ATHs for that matter), and of course, Blockchain gaming bursting onto the scene. With the New Year just around the corner, we thought it’d be fun to take a peek at some epic games coming in 2022. So strap in and get your keyboard (or controller) ready and let’s get stuck in!
First up we have Illuvium, the first triple-A game to enter the space! Illuvium is an open-world RPG adventure game built on the Ethereum Blockchain. Players journey across a vast and untamed landscape in their quest to hunt down and capture deity-like creatures called ‘Illuvials.’ Ultimately it is up to participants to discover the cause of the cataclysm that shattered the world of Illuvium.
In Illuvium, players will be able to:
- Race across crystal labyrinths, toxic deserts, and windswept mountain summits
- Hunt down and capture Illuvials, powerful creatures who rule the land of Illuvium
- Train and fuse their Illuvials into powerful evolutions
- Build their ultimate Illuvial team to take into battles and tournaments in PvE and PvP arenas
- Use their creativity to build unique synergies to outsmart their opponents
- Hit a winning streak as they best other hunters to become the strongest Ranger on Illuvium
Illuvium’s collectible NFT games feature crypto token assets with functionality and a gaming use case, interoperable across the Illuvium universe and the larger DeFi metaverse. The decentralized NFT collection offers players a user-maintained custody never-before-seen in mainstream gaming.
After watching the trailer, it’s safe to say the game sports rich visuals and some awesome animations. At the time of writing, the release date is set for some point in 2022. For now, be sure to register on Illuvium’s official website and follow their Twitter to stay up to date with the game’s development!
The Walking Dead: Empires
A recent partnership between Gala Games and AMC means that The Walking Dead is coming to Blockchain! Now that’s some exciting news! The Walking Dead: Empires is an MMORPG set in The Walking Dead Universe, or more specifically the US state of Georgia (as seen in the popular TV series).
However, the location isn’t the only overlap between the TV series and upcoming game. In fact, there’s going to be up to 30 original characters from the show appearing in the game! We’re talking Michonne Hawthorne, Rick Grimes, Glenn Rhee! What a line up! In addition to these characters, the game will include each of their signature weapons including Lucille (Negan’s baseball bat), Sasha’s sniper rifle, Rick’s Colt Python and more!
Besides the original characters making an appearance, the game will also include some famous landmarks from the show. Since the game is based in Georgia, it’s confirmed that we’ll see locations like Hershel Greene’s Farm as well as the infamous Prison. Having said this, the developers are also creating a number of areas that are entirely unique to the game.
OK, OK, so we’ve covered enough about the content of the game…now let’s take some time to dig into its mechanics and what you’re actually going to be able to do:
- Craft weapons and fight for survival
- Defend what’s yours and even take from others in a world where anything goes
- Construct a base on your land and build defenses to ward off walkers and humans alike
- Invite others to settle on your land and reap the benefits of what they grow and build
Currently, there is no set release date for The Walking Dead: Empires. However, we expect to see some gameplay teasers within the next few months! be sure to follow Gala Games on Twitter to keep up with all the latest news and updates concerning The Walking Dead: Empires.
Star Atlas is an open-world, space exploration, grand strategy MMORPG set in a galactic universe, with Play-to-Earn (P2E) mechanics and player ownership. Players pilot ships and engage in trade, commerce, and battle with others for scarce resources. Star Atlas is a virtual gaming metaverse emerging from the confluence of state of the art Blockchain, real-time graphics, multiplayer video game, and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) technologies. By harnessing the Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite, cinema quality video game visuals are possible in real-time.
Not only is Star Atlas full of grand space exploration, it also includes the ability to:
- Control land and territory
- Control vehicles and manage your fleet
- Set up space and land-based mining operations
- Player versus Environment (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP)
- Experience the game in VR
In addition, Star Atlas features an NFT marketplace that allows players to sell and trade the items they obtain while playing the game. The Star Atlas Universal Marketplace connects all players in-game to buy and sell all asset types and post job listings for paid in-game tasks. The majority of assets traded on the marketplace will be earned by engaging in in-game tasks. However, it is also a place to list assets purchased from both the pre-sale and concept sale.
Blockchain technology built on the Solana protocol ensures a largely serverless and secure gameplay experience. Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) obtained and traded within Star Atlas leads to the creation of an economy that replicates the tangibility of real world assets and ownership. To learn more, visit the official Star Atlas website and be sure to follow them on Twitter.
So are Minecraft and Roblox the be all end all of sandbox games and game creation platforms? Nope. Not by a long shot. I’d like to bring your attention to a project that takes some of the best components of these two games and combines them with the best of Blockchain tech and the Metaverse. Yes indeed, The Sandbox is what you might consider a ‘Metaverse ecosystem’ that runs on the Ethereum Blockchain. In this virtual world, players can build, own and monetize their gaming experience and assets. The Sandbox’s native ERC-20 token, $SAND, may be traded, staked and used to take part in the governance and evolution of the ecosystem as a whole.
The Sandbox Metaverse is made up of LANDS, parts of the world that are bought and owned by players to create and monetize experiences. There will only ever be 166,464 LANDS available which can be used to host games, build multiplayer experiences, create housing, or offer social experiences to the community.
NFTs are a large component of The Sandbox. Swords, armor, plots of land and so on are all NFTs in The Sandbox Metaverse. $SAND is the main utility token that allows players to buy and sell LANDS and ASSETS in The Sandbox Metaverse.
At the moment, The Sandbox is in its Alpha phase. Those who have an Alpha pass can access up to 18 exclusive experiences, earn 1,000 $SAND and 3 exclusive NFTs. To access the Alpha you must own one of the 5,000 Alpha passes which can be purchased via OpenSea or won in contests. If you want to receive all the latest updates on The Sandbox, be sure to follow them on Twitter and visit their official website.
Guild of Guardians
Last but not least we have Guild of Guardians , a mobile RPG where players can turn their passion for gaming into assets by building their dream team of ‘Guardians’ and competing in a guild to earn epic, tradeable rewards. Players will also be able to play for free and earn heroes and items without having to spend any money if they so wish.
The game is built on the Ethereum Blockchain with unique ERC-721s (NFTs) functioning as in-game assets. The team is also using Immutable X , the first Layer 2 for NFTs on Ethereum, ensuring zero gas fees and instant trades for players. Guild of Guardians will not be pay-to-win since skill and strategy will ultimately be the core elements of the game. In addition, spending money on Guild of Guardians won’t come at the expense of other players because the game is not focused on PvP.
You can’t play Guild of Guardians just yet. However, the game is in its first stage of release, meaning players can start collecting founder heroes. In terms of the game itself, the team is working hard to finish the arduous task of development and bringing a polished product to market. Make sure you follow Guild of Guardians on Twitter to keep up to date with the game’s progress! At the time of writing, the intention is to release Guild of Guardians on mobile in early 2022, but no actual date has been announced as yet.
If I could only choose only one of the above games, I’d have to say I’m most excited for The Walking Dead: Empires (probably because I’m a huge fan of The Walking Dead!)
