Water, Water Everywhere!
The surface of the Earth is made up of about 71% water, the vast majority of which is brine which, needless to say, cannot be consumed by humans in order for them to stay hydrated. Having said this, the importance of the planet’s oceans cannot be overstated. Somewhere between 50 and 80% of all life is found within the oceans, and since so many communities depend on the bounties of the sea for their survival, it’s crucial that these massive underwater ecosystems are carefully looked after so that future generations can continue to benefit from them.
There is an estimated 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic waste in our oceans, which equates to about 46,000 individual pieces of plastic in every square mile of ocean. This is somewhere in the region of 269,000 tonnes of plastic waste. Every single day, nearly 8 million pieces of plastic makes its way into our oceans. Those are some really depressing facts that I wish weren’t true, but even if you’ve only seen some of the material on YouTube and The Discovery Channel, it’s pretty clear our oceans are in dire straits.
Thankfully there are forces working tirelessly to turn the tide on this massive problem and improve the state of our oceans. Every day there are people, groups, and charities working to reduce and put an end to pollution in our oceans once and for all. This is exactly what our Fishy Fam frens intend to help accomplish. So let’s take a deep dive into what they’re all about!

A Home Beneath the Waves
Fishy Fam is a community-driven project focused on cleaning up the ocean by assisting charities and hosting IRL events. One of Fishy Fam’s main goals is to spread their message far and wide and leave their mark on the NFT space by making a positive impact in the world.
Holders of Fishy Fam NFTs will gain access to a number of items including:
- An awesomely adorable profile picture
- Tickets to IRL events
- Exclusive merchandise, and
- $toxic tokens
Most importantly, holders get to be part of changing the world for the better! Now that sounds like an amazing deal to me! Fishy Fam is still pretty new with the core team busy gearing up for mint, but despite this fact, their whitelist is already full! As a result, they have already closed the Google Form they had opened in their Discord. You stood a higher chance of getting whitelisted if you are involved in or hold an NFT from one or more of the following communities:
