If you read my last article, you might think I’m not much of a fan of The Sandbox. You’d be wrong. The Sandbox is easily one of the most promising projects in the industry, especially when it comes to gaming. Not only is it one of the most advanced projects in the blockchain and NFT gaming space, but it’s also one of the most well funded. While I’m not personally ready to call it a “Metaverse” just yet (read some of my thoughts on that here), I do think the game has a lot of potential. The team at The Sandbox has been hard at work and continues to make partnership after partnership with major brands to build new worlds in The Sandbox.
Here are 5 brands betting BIG on The Sandbox that I think could help put it over the top as the game to beat:
1. Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg isn’t just an OG when it comes to rapping—he’s also a long time proponent of NFTs. With his first major foray into creating his own virtual experience, Snoop Dogg has partnered with The Sandbox to create an entire land centered around mirroring some of his real-world lifestyle. With his own Snoop Dogg Avatar Collection , a giant mansion full of elaborately designed decor, fancy cars, and an entire concert venue built specifically for his own purposes, Snoop Land is going to be an exciting addition to The Sandbox. If you’ve ever wanted to experience a day in the life of Snoop Dogg, well, here’s your chance!
2. Lionsgate
Lionsgate is a unique addition to the world of The Sandbox. As a major Hollywood studio, Lionsgate owns several blockbuster franchises that can be leveraged. For their initial project with The Sandbox, they will be developing a new land known as “Action City.” Action City will feature customized NFTs and experiences from Hellboy, The Expendables, and the GOAT himself, John Rambo (Yes, that Rambo!) Let’s hope that Action City is a success so we can see more Lionsgate properties added in the future. Who doesn’t want to see new lands featuring John Wick, The Blair Witch, or even The Hunger Games? I know I do!
3. Playboy
While this might seem controversial to some, I personally think it’s a no-brainer and a big win for The Sandbox. There aren’t many places more iconic than The Playboy Mansion, and that’s exactly what they’re hoping to recreate in The Sandbox. Known as “The MetaMansion,” this virtual Playboy Mansion will bring the glitz and glamour of the iconic brand to life in a way we’ve never seen before. With games, social experiences, programmed events, unique fashion styles, and Playboy exclusive collectibles, the MetaMansion is sure to be a hit. And yes, there are Voxel Playboy Bunnies. I’ll let you decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.
4. Tony Hawk
If you were a gamer in the early 2000s, odds are you’ve played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater or one of the countless sequels in the long-running franchise. Not only were they bestselling games in their heyday, but they were really fun, even if you didn’t skateboard in real life. As the most well known and possibly greatest skater in the history of the sport, Tony Hawk utilized his unique brand and style to set these games apart from the rest of the crowd. The team at The Sandbox is hoping he can strike gold once again by bringing that same magic to The Sandbox. That’s right folks, Tonky Hawk will be creating his own experience within The Sandbox that will feature an absolutely epic skate park and social experience. You can assume that this will come complete with unique Tony Hawk branded NFTs and collectible skateboards (yes, please!) For those wondering what you can actually do in The Sandbox, this might just be the answer you’ve been looking for!
5. TIME Magazine
TIME Magazine has a 100-year legacy of being at the forefront of our culture. Whether they’re covering historic events, pop culture, or everything in between, TIME is one of the most well-known brands in the world. Not only that, but TIME Magazine has already been deeply involved in NFT culture with their TIMEPieces collection. For their partnership with The Sandbox, TIME is bringing the iconic Times Square to life in a detailed recreation of one of the most storied neighborhoods in America. Their goal is to recreate the spirit and energy of Manhattan by building one of the most exciting virtual experiences to date. With the industry being so tied to New York and having done countless shows, conferences, and other events there in the past, I have a feeling this will be one of the most popular locations in the entire Sandbox.
Honorable Mentions
The Sandbox has so many partners that it was hard to choose which ones to include here, so here’s a list of some additional partners that we think will have a huge impact on the world of The Sandbox:
- DeadMau5
- The Smurfs
- The Walking Dead
- CareBears
- Square Enix (Dungeon Siege )
- Ubisoft (Rabbids )
- Plus a whole lot more (no, really …)
Final Verdict
If there’s one game I would bet on in the blockchain and NFT gaming space right now (but don’t actually bet, OK?), it would probably be The Sandbox. With major backers ensuring they have sufficient funding and the momentum of their iconic brand partnerships, it looks like this Voxel-infused “Metaverse” is going to be the one to beat. Whether it’s Snoop Land, the virtual Playboy Mansion, or Tony Hawk’s Skate Park, The Sandbox is going to have a wide range of amazing experiences waiting for players when it finally releases. Personally, I’m most excited to see which brands they bring on next. Anyone else hoping for a Hellraiser land? No? OK, I’ll just see myself out…
So which one is your favorite? Are you heading straight for the MetaMansion to check out the Voxel Bunnies? Who else would you like to see join The Sandbox? Let us know your thoughts!
