Greetings to you all and welcome back to another fantastic Discovery of the Day! MSQ recently moved into its Open Beta, meaning you can now sign up for a profile and explore the site in all its glory. From Monday to Friday we bring you our Discovery of the Day series—whether it’s NFTs, Blockchain gaming or the metaverse, you’ll find out all about it right here on MSQ! In today’s edition we take a look at an awesome metaverse project that has everything to do with, well, you! Without further ado, we proudly present…Ready Player Me!

Your Digital Identity

Identity is a big deal. Our lives revolve around the concept of a ‘self’ with its own values, morals, beliefs, desires and experiences. In all honesty, identity is practically everything that pertains to us—from the company we keep to the music we listen to and the way we style our hair to our little idiosyncrasies, there is very little within our lives that falls outside of the scope of identity.

Identity can even be stolen, misused and/or completely fabricated, and in the age of the internet, it’s arguably easier than ever before. How many times have you read about someone who believed they were involved in a whirlwind romance with some millionaire living in an exotic location who ‘just needed some help’ with legal issues pertaining to the release of funds or something? So many vulnerable people, enamored with the idea of being loved by someone so extraordinary, send hundreds or even thousands of dollars to help their stricken lovers, only to later learn they were nothing more than a victim of an elaborate, yet all too common, scam.

Identity has and always will be a big deal. It’s actually going to become more and more important, and now with the prospect of the metaverse and countless intertwined virtual worlds, having some kind of discernible identity, at least in my opinion, is of crucial importance. You need an ID to prove that you are who you say you are, and you need a passport if you want to travel to other countries. Now extrapolate this in a virtual world where there will be hundreds or even thousands of interconnected virtual spaces. Seems a bit intimidating, doesn’t it?

No need to fear…there is an answer!

One Avatar, Unlimited Possibilities

How do you get a verified digital identity that can be used across the length and breadth of the metaverse? Why, you visit Ready Player Me, a cross-game avatar platform for the metaverse of course! There’s actually nothing complex about the concept behind Ready Player Me at all, and that’s why it’s so brilliant. Simply put, the avatar you create in Ready Player Me serves as your passport to the metaverse. Can you imagine having to create a new avatar every single time you enter a new Blockchain game or metaverse experience? Sounds like a major buzzkill to me! Nope, just a few minutes of your time is all it takes, literally once, and you have the ability to explore the metaverse virtually (see what I did there?) uninhibited!

Can we choose our own titles? I promise I’ll be modest…

If you believe one company or entity will control the metaverse, well…you’re missing the point. See, metaverse isn’t ‘Universe’—it’s Multiverse. That means there will be many different individuals, companies, communities and so on that will make up the metaverse…we’re talking about the culmination of everything digital into one massive interconnected experience! This is no small undertaking, and it’s pretty much going to take everyone in order to make it happen. Moreover, there are a lot of factors to take into account with identity arguably being one of the top priorities for any would-be citizen of the metaverse.

Yeah, this is literally what we’re talking about here! Hell yeah!

And What About Uptake?

So if Ready Player Me wants to be taken seriously, it’ll have to be adopted by several platforms and developers, right? That sounds like a pretty big task to me, but from the looks of things, the team behind RPM are already enjoying a lot of attention and uptake from developers across the board. In fact, Ready Player Me’s avatars are already being used in well over 1,100 apps and games on VR, mobile, desktop and the web. Some names include SideQuest, VRChat, and Animaze.

There are plenty of reputable names using and/or partnered with RPM, and you can see them all here

Yup, the number of apps and developers integrating Ready Player Me into their offerings is practically rising by the day. The best part about all this is that integration can take place rapidly and is typically completed before 24 hours have elapsed. Oh, and did I mention there’s no charge? Yup, Ready Player Me allows developers to take what they’ve painstakingly created over an eight year period and use it completely free of charge. Now how can anyone say no to that!?

So How Do You Create an Avatar?

You can be sure that the process is as simple and straightforward as possible. There are basically three steps:

Step 1: Take a selfie (alternatively, start from scratch)

Step 2: Customize your avatar

Step 3: Export your avatar

And that’s it. How easy is that? Go ahead and create your own RPM avatar right now by clicking here. In just a few minutes, you can have your own custom-made avatar that’s ready to be deployed for use in the metaverse! Now that’s some seriously cool stuff!
