The Ultimate Guide to Parallel

Today, we at MSQ are proud to bring you the Ultimate Guide to Parallel! This Guide will provide you with an overview of the project, its many interconnected aspects and some of its more important core mechanics. Of course we’ll also be sure to cover the lore behind Parallel as well as some of the lesser-known aspects of this extremely popular NFT-based card game. So without further delay, let’s dive headfirst into the immersive world of Parallel!

Parallel Lore

To truly understand Parallel in all its glory, we’re going to have to go way back to where it all began. The story takes place on Earth in the distant future. The planet is utterly depleted and no longer capable of supporting human life, or any life for that matter. As a direct consequence, those who remain find themselves trapped in a desperate struggle for energy and resources. Unable to find any other practical answers, the tattered remnants of humanity attempted to unlock the solution to their woes by hastily experimenting with anti-matter. Needless to say, the consequences were nothing short of devastating…

Five Parallels now find themselves embroiled in a brutal conflict, the victors of which will gain the rights to control what remains of Earth. This is essentially where our story begins. As a participant in the Parallel universe, you will help determine which faction will triumph over their opponents.

Choose the future of humanity. Choose your Parallel!

The five Parallels are as follows:

The Five Parallels (from left to right): Earthen, Marcolian, Augencore, Kathari and The Shroud

So what role do these Parallels play in the game? Simply put, a deck can only consist of cards from one Parallel as well as ‘Universal cards’ which do not belong to any one Parallel and can be used in all decks.

As an example, you cannot have both Kathari and Marcolian cards in the same deck. However, you can play Marcolian with Universal and Kathari with Universal in two different decks. As you can well imagine, each of the Parallels has its own unique strengths and tactical advantages in the game.

Parallel

Parallel is a Sci-Fi online and mobile card game powered by Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum Blockchain. Every card is a digital collectible (NFT) that can be used to build decks and challenge others in the upcoming game. The game itself has been in development since mid-2021, and though there is no set-in-stone release date at time of writing, the team plan to launch the game sometime in 2022.

The game is already vast and there’s a ton to cover—we’d be here all day if we had to cover every single aspect, so we’ll keep to the basics and provide you with a brief overview of how the game will work. To play and participate in the game, you will need to collect a minimum set of cards to create a playable deck that is associated with one of the five Parallels. You are allowed to create more than one deck and play as any one of the five Parallels for each match. Mixing and matching cards from the same Parallel will inevitably lead to the creation of more effective and powerful decks.

A deck consists of 40 cards. In order to win against your opponent, you will need to whittle their Life down to zero (0). At present, each player starts with 30 Life. No deck may contain more than three (3) identical cards with the exception of Legendary cards that are limited to one (1). With this in mind, Let’s briefly outline the types of cards you’ll encounter and how they’ll work in the game:

  • Units - Creatures, constructs, and beings of all types that can occupy the board and be used in battles
  • Relics - Non-combat permanents that can occupy the board and have varying effects, namely persistent, activated, or temporary
  • Effects - One-time spells that do something and are then wasted
  • Upgrades - Persistent increases, buffs, or other effects that attach to a Unit on the battlefield
  • Paragons - A Unit set aside at the beginning of the game that offers a persistent passive effect to your deck

Playing cards cost Mana, but what happens when you run out? This is where the ‘Energy Bank’ concept comes into play—you will be able to play your cards face down into your resource pool known as a Power Bank. Doing so will not only increase your Mana but allow you to draw an extra card at the end of your turn.

Of course there’s many more components to the game, but as aforementioned, we’d be here all day were we to run through all the details. Now that you have a basic understanding of the game’s mechanics, it’s time to level-up and move on to our next section that covers Cards, Assets and ParaSets.

Cards, Assets & ParaSets

As mentioned above, to participate in the game, you’re going to have to build a deck composed of several different cards. In this section we’re going to cover everything crucial regarding Parallel Cards as well as Assets and ParaSets.

Cards

Parallel Cards are the most important aspect of Parallel since, well, you need them to actually play the game! Before we jump into the types and rarities of cards, let’s take a closer look at a card and break it down so we can really understand the significance of the information it contains. Refer below to the image of a randomly selected card and each component that’s highlighted:

Parallel cards have seven (7) different rarities. In order to determine a card’s rarity, simply note the colored horizontal line near the bottom of the card as well as the color of the QR code. In the image below, you can easily identify which colors correlate with each rarity. One minor thing to note is that each card has both a day and night version. For example, the card above has 3,000 editions—however 1,500 of them are day while the other 1,500 are night. This is something to take stock of when browsing cards on secondary markets such as OpenSea .

The Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary and Prime cards are pretty much your typical rarity traits. However, what is Special Edition [SE]? And what does Perfect Loop [PL] mean? Oh, and we’ve yet to mention Masterpiece Cards! Let’s explore these in a little more detail, shall we?

Special Edition [SE] cards are collector edition cards with very small fixed edition sizes. You will be able to tell when you’re playing with or against an [SE] card in the game (think foil cards in physical card games).

Perfect Loop [PL] cards are animated cards that, you guessed it—perfectly loop! There’s not much else to say about these except for ‘Look at this awesome animated card!’

EMP Shockwave [PL]

Masterpiece cards are special 1/1 cards that showcase the stunning art of each card in the game. Masterpiece cards differ visually from the normal cards you will encounter in the game. Those players who hold Masterpiece cards and have them in their wallet on the last day of the month will receive quarterly rewards apportioned directly to them. To read more about Masterpiece cards, take a look at this official Parallel article covering them in greater detail.

ParaSets

Now that you’re comfortable with the different card types, let’s talk about what sets you can create with your cards—ParaSets. It’s actually pretty self-explanatory: Parallel + Set = ParaSet. Nice job if you worked it out before me!

The images below showcase various ParaSets you can create with the cards you obtain via Pack Drops or the secondary market. After completing a ParaSet you will be rewarded with an asset (we’ll cover these in a moment). Take for instance those who completed ParaSets from Pack Drop 1—they were rewarded with Galaxy Keys for their diligence and loyalty to Parallel.

Pack Drop 2 ParaSets

Assets

Now onto the final part of this section where we tie everything together: What is an Asset? In short, Assets are special NFTs you can obtain by completing a ParaSet. For example, like we mentioned above, those who completed a ParaSet from PD1 were rewarded with a Galaxy Key. Of course there’s much more to explore here, so let’s find out more about the other assets that exist in the Parallel universe.

Here you can see the five Assets that currently exist within Parallel: Galaxy Keys, Overclock Keys, ‘The Core,’ Prime Keys and Catalyst Drives

Both Galaxy & Overclock Keys could be obtained by completing PD1/PD2 ParaSets. Prime Keys were given out to early supporters of the project—the Catalyst Drive cannot function without a Prime Key. In essence, a Prime Key must be combined with a Catalyst Drive to create a Prime Drive. Finally, ‘The Core’ could be obtained in Pack Drop 2, but if you missed this, worry not! More will be up for grabs in the next Pack Drop.

So the question that comes to mind is, ‘Well, what exactly do these assets do?’ All will be revealed in the highly anticipated Prime Proposal which we’ll cover now.

The Prime Proposal

The Prime Proposal will be released to the community in the near future. But…what is it? The Prime Proposal is a whitepaper that discusses the Parallel Ecosystem in detail and outlines everything regarding the game and its economics including $PRIME which will serve as the Parallel Ecosystem’s native token.

So remember all those assets I mentioned earlier? The Prime Proposal will cover their purpose and answer any burning questions you may have. It will literally cover everything you need to know about Parallel! The Prime Proposal is now out of legal review, so here’s hoping that it releases soon so that we can all quench our collective thirst and find out even more about this epic game!

How to Participate in Pack Drops

The beautiful thing about Parallel is that there are no gas wars! Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Nope! Up to this point, Parallel has carried out two Pack Drops (on in July and the other in October 2021), and they plan to carry out the next one at some point in January 2022.

The way Pack Drops work is by reserving the amount of packs you’d like to purchase. At present you are only allowed to reserve a maximum of three (3) of each pack. However, you may find this tricky given the limited supply! If you’re fortunate enough to be able to reserve your packs, there is no payment required until 24 hours after your reservation. It’s just magical!

Pack Drops consist of 3 types of packs, namely Core, Enhanced and Premium. The images below displays the number of cards you will receive per pack as well as the possible cards you could have obtained in each pack in the recent October Drop. As we get closer to January 2022, more details regarding Pack Drop 3 should become available.

  • Core Pack - 0.01 ETH (4 Cards)
  • Enhanced Pack - 0.1 ETH (3 Cards)
  • Premium Pack - 0.2 ETH (1 Card)

How do I participate in a card drop? I’m glad you asked! Follow these three easy steps and you’ll be just fine:

  1. Locate the reservation page (this will be tweeted out and announced in Parallel’s Discord at the time of the Pack Drop)
  2. Use the drop down buttons to select the quantity of each pack you’d like to reserve
  3. Click ‘Reserve’

Boom. Easy as that! Remember, after clicking Reserve, you have 24 hours to complete payment.

Now all that’s left to do after paying for your packs is to open them and see what sweet cards you’ve received!

To prepare for the next Pack Drop coming in January 2022, make sure you sign up for a Parallel.life account and have a Metamask (or other Web3 wallet) set up and ready to go so that you’re prepared well in advance to make your reservation!

Tying It All Up

As you can clearly see, Parallel is a unique digital card game experience. Much of this is as a result of the technology upon which it’s based, namely Blockchain. By providing players with full ownership over their cards and allowing them to trade and compete with one another according to their own approaches, Parallel is changing the way gaming communities function. Moreover, its original lore and mechanics makes Parallel a highly immersive and compelling NFT-based gaming experience.
