Have you ever been sitting around on a Saturday, binge watching the Discovery Channel marathon of ghost hunting shows, and thought to yourself, “Hey, I could do that?” Well, now you can! Well, sort of. Snapchat has released a new AR ghost hunting game to satisfy your itch for the paranormal. While this isn’t an experience to rival more popular games like Phasmophobia, it’s a really fun step into evolving their offerings, and you’ll never hear us complain about more AR games! Let’s take a look at what Ghost Phone is all about!

What Is “Ghost Phone?”

Ghost Phone is a new AR game being developed and released by Snapchat as a Snapchat Mini . For those who don’t know, Snapchat Minis are like smaller apps that live inside of Snapchat, making them immediately available to the millions of existing users on the platform. If you already have Snapchat on your phone, you can start playing Ghost Phone in just a few presses.

Ghost Phone sets itself apart from similar AR games by actually having a pretty interesting story. This isn’t just an AR filter or a visual trick—it’s actually a real game! In Ghost Phone, players find a lost phone that belongs to a girl named Lisa, and a mystery unfolds that soon has you solving puzzles, spying on text messages, and, best of all, hunting ghosts! It’s a unique experience that we hope is just the first of many by Snapchat, and one we believe will inspire others to create even better experiences in AR. We love to see Snapchat exploring new concepts and ideas with their Snapchat Minis, and hey, who doesn’t like ghost hunting, right?

To be completely honest, after spending some time with the game, it’s a lot more fun than it probably deserves to be. While there is nothing revolutionary here, they do a great job of combining the story and mystery elements into the experience, and I found myself wanting to keep going. While I wouldn’t go in expecting a Pokémon GO type adventure, it’s definitely worth a look, especially if you already have Snapchat installed.
